There won't be any fireworks in Birmingham city centre this year.
Centenary Square is the usual location for the New Year's Eve display but redevelopment work has put a stop to that.
There was talk of fireworks instead being held at the ice rink and big wheel site in Digbeth but it's unable to go ahead for safety reasons.
If you are really keen to see the skies light up over the Midlands on New Year's Eve, then head to Resorts World at the NEC where all ticket-holders attending events at the various bars in the complex will be able to watch fireworks at midnight.
Alternatively, go to The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield, where staff confirmed there would be a fireworks display at midnight.
If you want to go clubbing in Birmingham and see in New Year on a packed dancefloor while being showered in confetti and balloons, then there's lots of options in Brum.
Among the club nights are a carnival night at Rosies, a glitter ball at PRYZM, a Glow party at Reflex and a space-themed night called Interstellar at new clubbing space Crane.
Or opt for the White Party 10-hour rave at Chic, a 1920s-themed Prohibition Party at O2 Academy or Magic Door's Gold & Glitter Party.
Events and parties
A New Year's Eve night out doesn't have to mean going to a club.
There are loads of other options too.
Among the events in the city, there's a masquerade party at The Chameleon, a 'gintastic' do at The Gin Vault, a Prohibition Cocktail Party at The Bull's Head, live music at The Jam House and a New Year's Eve party with comedian Barbara Nice at the Kitchen Garden Cafe.
The Old Crown is having a MOHO Snow Show, there are various nights at Resorts World, and a New Year gala at Symphony Hall with favourites including Rule, Britannia! and Land of Hope and Glory.
And there are other possibilities such as taking a late-night spin on Birmingham's Ice Rink and Big Wheel, and visiting the Magical Lantern Festival and SnowDome Winter Wonderland before they close.
Free things to do
A lot of New Year's Eve events require advance booking and tickets - but not all of them.
And it's easy to get caught out if you pop to your favourite pub only to find it's holding a ticket-only party night.
