Cirque du Soleil is bringing its internationally acclaimed OVO show – celebrating nature and co-existence – to Arena Birmingham.

A colourful carnival, inspired by the movement of insects, OVO has won international praise and pledges to keep the whole family buzzing.

Talented performers replicate crazy crickets, amazing ants and flexible fleas to uncover the natural world at our feet.

They invite the audience to: “Rush headlong into an ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and love.”

Crawling with fun, OVO is a non-stop riot of energy and movement featuring many of Cirque du Soleil’s mind-blowing signature acts including a stunning 14m high flying trapeze act – the biggest of its kind!

Cirque du Soleil will perform OVO at Arena Birmingham from Wednesday 3 to Sunday 7 October 2018 – it will be the last performance of the UK tour which launches in London in the Royal Albert Hall next month, then tours the UK from August 16.

Who performs in OVO?

The cast of OVO is comprised of 50 performing artists from 17 countries specialising in many acrobatic acts.

This includes Alanna Baker from the UK who plays the role of the Black Spider.

She was crowned gymnastics European Champion in 2011 and won Bronze in the World Championships in 2012.

Alanna, who has been training since she was five years old has travelled around the world with OVO to countries as far reaching as Japan and Australia.

Why is OVO so special?

OVO has thrilled more than five million people worldwide since it premiered in Montreal in 2009 as a Big Top show.

Today the show OVO offers the same captivating production as the Big Top performances, but on a larger scale now.

OVO means “egg” in Portuguese.

Organisers say: “OVO is a headlong rush into a colourful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement.

“When a mysterious egg appears in their midst, the insects are awestruck and intensely curious about this iconic object that represents the enigma and cycles of their lives.

“It is love at first sight when a gawky, quirky insect arrives in this bustling community and a fabulous ladybug catches his eye – and the feeling is mutual.”
