The food festival, now in its 7th year, is growing – last year’s event attracted hundreds of stalls and tens of thousands of people.

The organisers want to put the spotlight on local culinary talent and are hoping to discover some great cooks.

A spokesman said: “This is our biggest competition yet and we are after ‘Home Cooks of the Year 2018’.

“In conjunction with chef Liam Dillon from The Boat Inn, Cocker Hoop Creative, Lichfield BID and The Kitchen Shop we are searching for our very own home-grown culinary shining stars.

“We want you to share with us your signature starter, main course or dessert that always wows your friends and family.”

To apply download the application form and return it with a detailed menu, including pictures if desired.

From the entries received a panel of judges, including Liam Dillon from The Boat and Matt Davies, Vice Chairman of the British Culinary Federation will select the three finest menu ideas.

There are some great prizes on offer to the winners.

Firstly, courtesy of The Kitchen Shop each winner will receive a state-of the-art Kitchen Aid food mixer.

Secondly on the weekend of the festival – August 25 and 26 – the winners will appear on the Central England Co-operative Cookery Theatre on the lawns of Lichfield Cathedral, showcasing their winning recipe assisted by a local theft or Great British Bake Off celebrity.

Then on Wednesday April 29 all three winners will take over the running of The Boat at Muckley Corner where, under the watchful eye of Liam Dillon, they will recreate their winning dishes for a full house of friends, family and paying customers.
