Alan Pardew has played down speculation that Arsenal defender Calum Chambers is on his January transfer wishlist.

Chambers has been touted as a potential makeweight in any deal with Arsenal for West Bromwich Albion captain Jonny Evans.

But Pardew, who aims on Saturday to secure a first Premier League win as Baggies boss against Brighton & Hove Albion, was quick to play down the rumour.

“No, that name has not entered into my thinking,” said Pardew.

“Or names at Arsenal, Man City or Man Utd if I’m honest."

Albion are yet to receive any offers for star defender Jonny Evans amid reports Arsenal and Manchester City have stepped up their interest.

The Northern Irishman’s absence from the 2-0 FA Cup win over Exeter City last weekend sent the transfer rumour mill into overdrive.

One national newspaper claimed Arsenal had made a £25 million offer for the 30-year-old.

Several more speculated that both the Gunners and City had made contact over a possible move for the former Manchester United man.

But Alan Pardew reckons “nothing’s changed on that front”.

“Until there’s an offer on the table we’ll exercise our plan.

“If the offer is acceptable to us we’ll put our plan in place although I wouldn’t disclose that to you, unfortunately.”

Pardew fully expects to restore his skipper to the starting line-up for the crunch clash against relegation rivals Brighton on Saturday.

“We’re in the same position,” Pardew said. “The good news with Jonny is that he’s fit and he wasn’t last weekend.

“So you can expect to see him on the team sheet this weekend.”
