Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic is set to leave Anfield on loan this month with the Championship his likely destination.

The Serbian has loan offers from Middlesbrough and Cardiff City, report ESPN, as he bids for first team action - and has also been heavily linked with Aston Villa.

The 21-year-old has played just six times for Jurgen Klopp all season and could prove a fine addition for promotion chasers.

Now it is likely to come down to who out of Tony Pulis and Neil Warnock can persuade the former Red Star Belgrade star to continue his development away from Merseyside, though Steve Bruce may yet show his hand.

Grujic arrived at Anfield two seasons but is yet to start a league game for the Reds with each appearance coming off the bench.

Here's what you need to know about him.

What do we know of him?

His last appearance came in the 5-1 win at Brighton at the beginning of December.

Galatasaray are keen to take Grujic to Turkey but Liverpool are adamant that he won’t be going abroad.

The Reds believe Grujic would benefit more from staying in English football.

Could Villa be an option?

Bruce addressed the transfer front recently and confirmed that the club are closing in on one of two signings he’s hopeful of making.

“I think everybody knows and understands the situation we’re in,” he said.

“I think I’ve been pretty clear.

“With the financial situation at the club, we’re not in a position to spend millions.

“However, if we look to go down the loan route which has been really positive for us, even at the start of the season with Sam [Johnstone].

“We’ll try and go down that route, we’re close to one of two things to bring in.

“Until you get them over the line, then you can’t really reveal.

“We’re particularly close on one - let’s hope it can happen.”

Is he any good?

Grujic already has four caps for the Serbian national team, and represented them at every youth level.

He scored five goals in 31 games for Red Star Belgrade in a three-year period ended 2016.

He has since gone back to Belgrade on loan from Liverpool, scoring once in an eight-game stint.

What has Klopp said?

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp

Speaking about Grujic recently, Klopp said: “I like the boy a lot. He has made progress like hell. His heading is outstanding but he doesn’t make the squad a lot which isn’t the best thing for him.

“We will think about a loan. We always want to help the players. I really see Marko in the future playing for Liverpool. We have to see what we can do to make it more likely that he comes through in the near future.”

More Villa news: Elmo's fire

Ahmed Elmohamady’s message is loud and clear: Now is the time for Aston Villa to show what they’re made of.

The right-back reckons February and March are crucial months in the promotion hunt and believes Villa can shape their season in the next ten games.

Elmohamady has won promotion twice before with Steve Bruce at Hull City - in 2012/13 as Championship runners-up and in 2015/16 as play-off winners.

Asked about a third, he said: “It looks good and we are looking forward to the games coming up.

“The most important time in the Championship is the two months coming up. It makes a big difference in your season.

“Derby keep winning games now and the last couple of months they have been in great form.

“If you have good form for two or three months in the Championship it can make a big difference.”

Villa are five points behind the Rams and are in good form after three wins on the spin.

Games against Barnsley, Sheffield United, Burton Albion and Birmingham City will give Bruce’s troops chance to kick on.
