Free-scoring Jack Marriott is focusing firmly on his football despite the constant reminders from his pals about the January transfer window interest.
Peterborough United’s £5million-rated striker has bagged 23 goals this season including two goals in the FA Cup win over Aston Villa last weekend.
Villa scouts have watched the 23-year-old in action and Blues, Hull and Leeds United are also keen.
But Marriott is refusing to get carried away with the transfer gossip, even if his mates keep reminding him of his ever-growing popularity.
Asked about the speculation this month, the striker said: “Of course you hear it, you get a bit of banter in the dressing room.
“I get a lot of it in the group chats as well from my mates, they’re always bantering me about it.
“But I’ve literally just got to try and brush it off.
“If I think too much about it, I’m not thinking about my game.
“And ultimately, if I’m not thinking about my game then the speculation isn’t there,
“I’ve got to keep my head down and hopefully the performances will come.”
Marriott joined Peterborough from Luton Town in the summer after a prolific season with the Hatters.
And he’s kept up his fine form this term with another prolific period in front of goal.
“I think I’ve been doing alright but I’m always striving to do better,” he said when asked about his goalscoring record.
“Every game I just try to do my best and play to the best of my ability.
“You have to have that consistency,”
Villa and Blues have both checked out Marriott but are believed to have been put off by the asking price.
The Posh have already rejected three bids this month, believed to be in the value of £4million, and money is tight at both Birmingham clubs so a move is unlikely.
