Nothing stings more than a former manager beating you with his new team.

Gary Rowett has of course been away from Birmingham City a while now, but that doesn't make it easier for the fans.

Rowett was taunted by a small section of Birmingham City fans on his return to St Andrew’s with chants of ‘You dirty Villa b******’.

The former Blues manager was making his second return to B9 since his shock sacking in December 2016 and received a warm welcome as he trotted down the touchline for kick-off.

Rowett was greeted by Blues’ assistant manager Lee Carsley before the home supporters applauded.

But Derby County fans’ chants of ‘Rowett’s too good for you’ sparked the amusing response from members of the Blues faithful.

The team Rowett supported in his youth has long been up for debate in these parts. Despite playing for Blues and having an allegiance with the club as a coach, Rowett was pictured wearing a Villa kit as a child.

In a nutshell

Derby County heaped further misery on Steve Cotterill's relegation-threatened Birmingham City with a 3-0 thumping at St Andrew's.

Johnny Russell, Matej Vydra and Andreas Weimann grabbed the goals to give Gary Rowett his second win in succession as visiting boss.

This one, though, was far more convincing than the last which saw Tom Ince win it with virtually the last kick of the game in March.

The second-placed visitors arrived at B9 as the Championship's form team and they showed why. Derby were by no means pretty, but they were effective - remind you of anyone?
