Birmingham City rose to the challenge to prove Sky Sports pundit David Prutton wrong by nicking a win against Cardiff City last night.

Prutton had predicted a creditable draw with the Bluebirds but Cotterill’s men went one better and secured three points.

Che Adams’ early goal brought Blues their third Championship win of the season and first under new manager Steve Cotterill.

And that wasn’t the first time Sky’s resident EFL expert has been surprised by Blues this season.

Prutton has predicted five Blues results this season and is yet to land on a winner - here are his predictions in full:

Ipswich Town 1-0 Blues

Prutton predicted: Ipswich Town 1-1 Blues

"A good solid draw at Portman Road I reckon. Two very experienced managers will be facing off in Mick McCarthy and Harry Redknapp and both will be trying to get the absolute maximum of what they have at their disposal.

"Harry, in particular, will want to bring a few more faces through the door before the end of the month, and both sides will hope to be looking up rather than down this season."

Norwich City 1-0 Blues

Maxime Colin

Prutton predicted: Norwich City 0-2 Blues

"It's been a bit of a nightmare start for Daniel Farke so far. It's too early to be worried about their league position, but he never would have wanted to see his side in the bottom three. He'll be happy to be back at home, though, after shipping four goals in consecutive away games.

"It will be interesting to see how Birmingham get on now with all their new arrivals. If Jota hits the ground running then Harry Redknapp's side could soon find themselves heading in the right direction."

Derby County 1-1 Blues

Prutton predicted: Derby 1-2 Blues

"Will there be an upturn under Lee Carsley? Birmingham acted a bit prematurely in sacking Harry Redknapp I think after giving him licence to sign so many players in the summer. There are good players there now it's just about someone getting them going.

"Derby are the perfect example of how unpredictable the Sky Bet Championship is. They thumped Hull 5-0 one week then got hammered at Bristol City the next. Gary Rowett will want a result against his former club, but I've just got a feeling that Birmingham may nick a shock win."

Hull City 6-1 Blues

Prutton predicted: Hull City 0-1 Blues

"Birmingham have looked a better side with more direction in the last week or so and it was vital for them to finally get a victory in midweek.

"Hull, meanwhile, are struggling now and are heading very much in the wrong direction. For me this is an away win."

Blues 1-0 Cardiff City

Prutton predicted: Blues 1-1 Cardiff City

"Another new era for Birmingham as Steve Cotterill prepares to take charge for the first time. He's got plenty of issues to address and he would have been glad to have had a couple of weeks before this game to work with the squad after they were absolutely pumped last time out.

"He'll want to make a quick impression at St Andrew's against a high-flying Cardiff side, who still sit top of the table heading into the game. But Neil Warnock won't want to get carried away, and I think this will be a draw on Friday night."
