Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was fatally knifed after trouble flared at a house party in Walsall.

The victim - a 19-year-old man - was stabbed to death at an address in Willows Road, in the Chuckery area of the town.

Officers were called to the scene at 1.46am following reports of a disorder at the party.

They discovered the injured teen but despite the best efforts of emergency services at the scene, the man died.

The area remains sealed off while police carry out house-to-house enquiries.

Forensic detectives are also scouring the scene for evidence.

Detective Inspector Ian Wilkins from the force’s homicide team said: “Investigations are at an early stage, but there appears to have been a party at an address in Willows Road which resulted in a disorder and a young man tragically losing his life. "

Our reporter Jasbir Authi will be providing updates from the scene. See below.

“Then next thing I know I woke up and my wife said there had been a stabbing.”

Lorasib Khan lives on Willow Road and heard a ‘commotion’ last night. Mr Khan, a 66-year-old engineer, said:

“It was about 1am. There was a commotion- a bit of shouting.

“It was kids shouting at each other. It wasn’t very loud, that’s why I didn’t take any notice. Then it went quiet.

“Then next thing I know I woke up and my wife said there had been a stabbing.”

He added: “I’ve never seen who lives there. It’s a quiet area and everyone keeps to themselves.”

Officer stationed outside property

In the last minute, an officer has been stationed outside a property and police tape placed across the entrance. The house in question is a pleasant semi-detached property. One upstairs window looks slightly open but there are no lights on.

Community left shocked by the murder

A stream of people are stopping briefly to look at the cordon before moving on. It is difficult to tell which property the house party was held at as the whole ‘bend’ section of Willows Road is currently sealed off by police. At this time, no one has emerged from within the cordon.

A local shopkeeper, who did not wish to give his name, said:”I was going to get the papers and this is the first thing I’ve seen.

“This has shocked me. There are normal working class people here. “It’s a good quiet area,” the shopkeeper added.

Police helicopter

Local resident Mark Davis said there was a police helicopter hovering low for some time in the early hours.

Mr Davis, a 52-year-old delivery driver, said:”It was about 1am and I heard the helicopter going around low for a good hour.

“It was going round and round. I did wonder what it was about. This is very shocking- it’s so close to where you live.

“This end is nice.”

Jasbir Authi at the scene

I’m on Willows Road in central Walsall, where a community is waking up to a fatal stabbing on their doorsteps. A police van is blocking off the entrance to the road from Lincoln Road which is just off the busy Broadway North.

There are two further police vans parked on the bend of Willows and cars are not allowed to proceed further but are being re-directed down Chuckery Road. The focus of the enquiry is the bend of Willows Road and no one is allowed down this section with police carrying out checks.

On the surface, this is a pleasant, residential road lined with large, semi detached and terraced homes.

Huge police presence at the scene

Our reporter Jasbir Authi has just sent this footage in from the scene.

It shows a large police presence at the scene - with a cordon still in place on the road.

But police have this morning released a statement.

Investigations are at an early stage, but there appears to have been a party at an address in Willows Road which resulted in a disorder and a young man tragically losing his life.

I would urge the person or persons responsible for the stabbing to come forward and hand themselves in.

The police will find out who is responsible and I would ask them to search their conscience and come and talk to us as soon as possible.
