Three lanes are closed following a crash on the M6.

There’s been a collision on the M6 Southbound between Junction 7 for Great Barr and Junction 6 for the Aston Expressway.

An air ambulance is currently on route and delays are building. We will be bringing you the latest as this unfolds.

Highways England has just tweeted this: “There’s a collision on the #M6 southbound between J7 and J6 (just north of #Birmingham). An Air Ambulance is en route. 3 lanes (of 4 ) are closed. Delays building.”

Delays have eased

Delays have now eased to 30 minutes from SB, Junction 6 to J10 for the Black Country. Two lanes are closed while a hydroblaster is in use to clear up a spillage following a seven car crash just after 10am.

Two people were taken to hospital but they were not said to be seriously injured.

Two lanes are now open

A second lane has been reopened.Two lanes remain closed to allow a hydroblaster machine to clear up a large spillage.

Delays remain as we get closer to rush hour.

Staggering footage shows the aftermath of the horror M6 pile-up which lead to the closure of three lanes and delays of more than THREE HOURS for motorists.

Mobile phone footage posted on social media shows the devastating scene following today’s seven-vehicle collision.

Driver stuck for three hours was supposed to be at work at 11.30am

Jake Osei-Tutu, 34, an Enrolment Consultant, has been stuck on the M6 for a staggering three hours.

He was supposed to be at work at 11.30am in Solihull.

Mr Osei-Tutu said: “I got on to the M6 South from Wednesbury at 10:45am and only just got past the junction into Great Barr.

“I’m on my way to work in Solihull.”

One driver has been stuck for three hours near Birmingham

Update from Highways England

No change. Three lanes remain blocked.

Details on injuries - three treated

West Midlands Ambulance said they sent three crews to the seven car crash, just before 10.05am.

A spokesman said: “We sent three ambulances and a paramedic officer. We treated a man in his 60s for back and leg injuries and he was taken to Sandwell Hospital.

“We treated a woman in his 50s for injuries to her head and foot and she was taken to City Hospital.

“A teenage girl was assessed and discharged at the scene.”

There’s been a further collision on the M6 Southbound between J10A M54 and J10 A454 / B4464 (Wolverhampton / Walsall).

Lane one, of four, is closed.

There are delays of two and a half hours from J6 SB, following an earlier seven vehicle collision around 10.15am. The clear-up is still in progress.

Reports of 'two and a half hour' delays on the M6

Travel Tom has said drivers are stuck in delays of around two and a half hours all the way from J6 to J10a (M54). This is following a seven vehicle collision on the M6 SB, around 10.15am. One lane has reopened but the queuing traffic will take some time to clear.

Seven vehicles involved in the M6 crash

The Central Motorway Policing Group has announced that seven vehicles were involved in the collision. Long delays are expected.

Highways England has just said one lane has reopened on the M6 SB, between J6 and J7.

Delays of an hour remain.

Drivers have been sat in traffic for more than an hour

Some people have been sat for more than an hour following a crash on the M6 SB between J6 and 7.

Three lanes are closed and one lane was closed on the NB section when the air ambulance landed. There is no news on when it is due to open at this stage but the Highways Agency has said there is still a large spillage to clear up.

Meanwhile, the M5 slip road is open

Three lanes are still closed on the M6 SB following a collision.

Highways England have said that “there is also a large spillage that needs to be dealt with.

“As soon as we know if a lane can be opened past the scene then we will let you know. Please bear with us.”

M6 SB is blocked between J7 and J6

The M6 Southbound is blocked and there is stationary traffic due to multi-vehicle accident between J7 A34 (Great Barr) and J6 A38(M) Aston Expressway / A5127 Gravelly Hill / A38 Tyburn Road / Slade Road Spaghetti Junction.

Congestion is now heading back to Junction 9 (Wednesbury).
Air ambulance now in attendancen and has resulted in a lane closure on the Northbound carriageway.

Earlier accident on M5 is causing delays

This was the earlier incident involving two HGVS which collided on the slip road entrance to junction 1 of the M5 North. Nobody was trapped but this slip road is in the process of being opened.

Multi-vehicle collision on the M6

Three lanes are closed and there is queueing traffic due to a multi-vehicle accident on the M6 Southbound between J7 A34 (Great Barr) and J6 A38(M) Aston Expressway / A5127 Gravelly Hill / A38 Tyburn Road / Slade Road Spaghetti Junction.

Congestion on the M6 is spreading back to J8 of the M5.

An air ambulance has been requested.
